This weekend there was a huge summer festival down in Osu Kannon, a nearby neighborhood. We headed down there today to see the cosplay summit and the handheld fireworks.
For those of you who don’t know, cosplay is when people either create (or buy) costumes of their favorite characters from manga, anime, video games, and so on. They then wear these costumes to events.
I don’t know who a lot of the costumes are supposed to be, but they are really nicely made, regardless.
This girl’s costume was very detailed.
I think the guy right behind her was from the same series.
I was surprised to see that there were a ton of non-Japanese participants in the parade.
Some costumes were simply bizarre.
I liked this guy’s contacts.
This girl posed for me with her beer.
I was really impressed with this guy’s make up abilities for his Porco Rosso costume.
Here is another costume with an insane amount of detail.
There were many Sailor Moon troupes.
I loved the bug man.
This costume of Al from Full Metal Alchemist was PERFECT.
I think this is supposed to be a Hatsune Miku robot.
A video game character.
There were tons of really cute couples!
I have no idea what this is other than fabulous.
There were also fabulous cosplay FAMILIES!! How cute is this?
A lot of costumes incorporated umbrellas. (Maybe as sun protection?)
Sock monkeys – not so cute as real people…
This girl was losing her clothes, and I have no idea what she was really even supposed to be…
I’m not sure if these people were making some pose specific to their characters, or if they were making fun of the organizers who, for some reason, decide the street did NOT need to be closed to traffic and instead had the cosplayers sprint across the road between lights.
Girls sprinting across the street!
Vocaloid characters waiting to cross.
Not even sure what the guy on the left is supposed to be…
Crazy scarecrow type person.
Some people did this super creepy cosplay variation.
Aerith and Tifa run across the street.
Well that is all for the Osu Festival Cosplay Summit. The next post will be about the night festival!
