Minato Matsuri

Today we had to good fortune of actually ATTENDING Minato Matsuri, the annual festival held at Nagoya Port. We saw festival floats and a nice fireworks display.

Women were playing the shamisen inside one of the floats.

The backs of all of the floats had taiko drums!

This one looked like a boat.

This one made me laugh. Check out the steering wheel!!

After walking towards the pier, we found a place to watch the fireworks – called “hanabi” (fire flowers) in Japanese.

In a stroke of true genius, we decided to start heading back to the subway before the mass exodus. On our way, we saw the retreating floats.

Well, that’s all for Minato Matsuri! Festival season is upon us, so expect to see more in the coming weeks!
